Why did the bison cross the road? BECAUSE THEY COULD.

Hi ,

Last month, I did something I have never done before ...

I took time off while my kids were out of school for the summer. 🤯

That might not seem like a big deal to you, but to me, it was a huge milestone. My team and I worked tirelessly for 6 months to make sure all our systems and processes were nailed down tight, everyone's roles were clearly defined, backups were in place, and everything was documented and filed away with exacting standards -- all to make sure that I could take extended time off after working so hard these last two years to get my master's degree.

I'm happy to report, things were as smooth as butter while I was gone.

And because of that, I didn't get any panicked phone calls from my team members while I was seeing a heard of 400 bison up-close with my family in South Dakota.
And also because of that, I had the luxury of time and space to think (when I wasn't wrangling two little girls or working on my next novel, that is).

Every once in a while, a founder reaches out to me for the kind of service that isn't explicitly listed on the Horizon Peak website -- something I really love to do, but until recently hadn't had much bandwidth to provide.

Writing coaching.

During my July sabbatical, I began to wonder if this was something more than just a handful of founders (and business owners and leaders of all stripes) could use.

So as I am wont to do, I did some research.

There are soooo many coaches for founders in the world. Leadership coaches. Mindset coaches. Sales coaches. Health coaches. Relationship coaches. ... But for the life of me, I couldn't find anyone coaching founders in this fundamental skill of writing.

Which is bananas. Because founders write a lot. They write thought leadership articles. Pitch decks. Marketing emails. Notes to board members. Press releases. One-sheets. LinkedIn posts.

And there are no experts raising their hand to give them guidance on how to make all that writing easier, more engaging and more effective???

As my friend who just sold her company shared with me, "A lot of them hire PR folks only to be frustrated with the result, because frankly, [PR written] work can never be as deep as the ideas you produce yourself."

Bananas.

After this realization, I decided I was going to take the next step in my research and start to ask for feedback "in the wild." And that's where this email comes in.

Would you do me the kindness of hitting REPLY and answering both or either of these questions?

1. If I made it more widely available and reasonably priced, would you or someone you know feel excited by the chance to get writing coaching from me?

2. If you have gotten any kind of coaching before (not just writing -- any kind of coaching), what did you think about the structure of the coaching program(s)? By "structure," I'm thinking of the mechanisms for delivering the coaching -- 1:1 calls with the coach, weekly group calls, Slack / Circle / Discord / Voxer, written course material, video lessons (and the length of those video lessons), asynchronous feedback from the coach, etc. What worked well for you, and what part did you not like?

And if you feel like you're not a great person to answer those questions, but you know someone who is, please forward this email to them! I would owe ya one.

Thank you times a million!

Best,

Jessica Mehring
